Srdjan Jovanovic Weiss is a Serbian-born an architect and founder of NAO(Normal Architecture Office). He recently collaborated with Herzog & de Meuron architects in Basel. Srdjan Weiss presented his work in museums and universities internationally. He is an Assistant Professor at Tyler School of Art_Architecture at Temple University and lectures at Harvard and University of Pennsylvania.

Normal Architecture Office is a spatial practice for contemporary architecture, urbanism and curating based in Philadelphia. NAO is interested in architecture vis-a-vis emerging democracies. NAO is based on rigorous conceptual approach at all levels of the design process. Whatever NAO carries through the process of design and collaboration to the final deliveries of architecture: buildings, projects, interiors or books has a distinct conceptual, practical and intellectual touch and is treated as a unique peace of work.

Villa 062 will collect traces of the extreme weather changes of the desert. The outside of the villa can best be described as a continuous shelving system designed to collect changing seasonal elements: snow, sand, rain, and moss. The motivation here is to challenge architecture as something separate from nature. Villa 062 is shaped like a contoured hilltop. The hills in Inner Mongolia are traditionally contoured to collect and preserve groundwater and prevent its dispersion into the desert. Similarly, our villa is traversed by multiple paths and ways of going up, down, or around. Rainwater is partially managed by the paths as the house blends down into a landscaped garden. Two mainpromenades, one outside and one inside, define the architecture of the villa. The outside promenade is an ample and open path along the landscaped areas all the way to the top of the building. One can experience the house without entering it, be ?nside?while outside. The dual shape of Villa 062 stems from the interplay and intertwining of its public and private areas. Because of its sculptural silhouette, Villa 062 is intended to be recognizable in extreme weather and reduced light conditions. Coal and milk are Ordos? two most important products. Wrapped in copper, Villa 062 will slowly change in from orange to green, then eventually black, the color of coal. Its interiors will remain milky white.
